Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Amarius Mims, the No. 22 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 68. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Sinnott reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Bernhard Raimann leading the way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 34 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Amarius Mims at Round 3, Pick 4 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Mahogany. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in No. 103 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at the 121st pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kamal Hadden at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Isaiah Davis at the 224th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
