You build a draft on nights like this. Tyler Nubin had no business being available in pick No. 72, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Every board in the league had McGlothern lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 10th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
J.J. McCarthy in pick 34 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid up for Christian Mahogany at pick No. 68 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Tyler Nubin was still sitting there in No. 72, and they pounced on premier safety value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Xavier Legette in the 73rd pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Dwight McGlothern, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
