You could see the war room lean forward. Chop Robinson at No. 104 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The cost of the Jones reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Keon Coleman slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 2 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Christian Mahogany enough to skip the value, taking him in the 68th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Javon Bullard higher than pick 75, and the safety fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Chop Robinson in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Christian Jones. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tanner McLachlan in No. 229 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
