This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Troy Fautanu, the No. 29 name on the board, stolen at pick 104. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
A conviction pick on J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 34 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Troy Franklin at the 45th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Blake Corum at par in No. 68, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Troy Fautanu was still sitting there in slot 104, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Darius Robinson in the 136th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
