Somebody in pick No. 104 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Chop Robinson, the No. 35 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Every board in the league had Guerendo lower, and that gap is the story. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
J.J. McCarthy at the 34th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, T'Vondre Sweat a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Chop Robinson at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Luke McCaffrey went about where he belonged in the 136th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Christian Jones in slot 182, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Isaac Guerendo at pick 229 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
