Thirty-one other rooms let Byron Murphy II slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at slot 68. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A conviction pick on J.J. McCarthy at the 34th pick that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Amarius Mims at the 44th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Byron Murphy II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in pick 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kitan Oladapo in No. 182 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
