Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Tracy Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had cheaper options than J.J. McCarthy at the 34th pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Johnny Wilson in slot 80 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Christian Mahogany went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in Round 4, Pick 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Tyrone Tracy Jr., who had no business lasting to No. 217. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
