The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Nubin. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; Brian Thomas Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Ladd McConkey was still sitting there in pick No. 68, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quinyon Mitchell at Round 3, Pick 5 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at slot 80 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Nubin in pick 81 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
