This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nate Wiggins, the No. 15 name on the board, stolen at Round 4, Pick 4. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Sundell reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
J.J. McCarthy at slot 34 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Christian Mahogany in the 68th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Nate Wiggins still on the board at Round 4, Pick 4. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 136, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Christian Jones at the 182nd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Jalen Sundell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
