The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Isaiah Davis, the No. 190 name on the board, in pick 229. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Jones has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Good price on Brian Thomas Jr. in the 34th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value with a capital V on Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 68, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in slot 104, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Luke McCaffrey went about where he belonged in pick 136. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Jones at Round 6, Pick 7 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Isaiah Davis at pick No. 229 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
