Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They are betting Warren proves the room right and everyone else wrong. However the rest shakes out, Loveland at that price is a win they earned. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Colston Loveland at the 34th overall pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They jumped the gun on Elic Ayomanor, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Tre Harris in Round 2, Pick 24; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Quincy Riley in slot 70, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Warren in the 98th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Sonny Styles in pick No. 99, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nick Emmanwori in pick 130 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Terrance Ferguson at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
