When a board-topper like Adisa Isaac slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Every board in the league had Mahogany lower, and that gap is the story.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The veteran additions, Dexter Lawrence chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Jayden Daniels at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Christian Mahogany. A need, and now a little less of one.
Johnny Wilson at slot 104 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Adisa Isaac in the 143rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach for Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 148; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
