New England Patriots

The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

Nobody else had Dontay Corleone anywhere near slot 216. The Patriots did, by 104 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Roberts at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Kelvin Banks Jr. · OT · rank 8
In No. 6 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 62
Colston Loveland at pick 41 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 104
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Warren. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Kalel Mullings · RB · rank 94
Kalel Mullings in slot 85 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Shavon Revel Jr. · CB · rank 108
They took Shavon Revel Jr. at par in Round 4, Pick 3, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.7 · Pick 108 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 116
They jumped the gun on Abdul Carter, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.33 · Pick 134 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 131
They did well to land Aireontae Ersery in Round 4, Pick 33, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.34 · Pick 135 · Jonah Coleman · RB · rank 145
Jonah Coleman at slot 135 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.6 · Pick 144 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 126
The board fumbled Jaeden Roberts all the way to pick No. 144, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.13 · Pick 151 · Mykel Williams · DL-EDGE · rank 193
Mykel Williams at the 151st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.2 · Pick 216 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 320
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dontay Corleone in the 216th pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.4 · Pick 218 · Jayden Higgins · WR · rank 275
Jayden Higgins in No. 218 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.14 · Pick 228 · Terrance Ferguson · TE · rank 219
A slide stopped in pick 228, with Terrance Ferguson worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.28 · Pick 242 · Jaylin Noel · WR · rank 317
Jaylin Noel at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
