When a board-topper like Spencer Rattler slides to the 182nd overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
The board fumbled JC Latham all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Xavier Legette at par in No. 68, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christian Mahogany at the 104th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Johnny Wilson at pick 136 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Spencer Rattler at Round 6, Pick 7 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a running back like Isaac Guerendo reach pick No. 229 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
