Call it larceny. Tyrone Tracy Jr. sat on the board until No. 182, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The cost of the Mahogany reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
A quiet steal in No. 34: Brian Thomas Jr. for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A slide stopped in the 104th overall pick, with Trey Benson worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Johnny Wilson in the 136th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Tyrone Tracy Jr. still on the board at pick 182. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
