The Patriots torched the value chart for Josiah Ezirim, taking him 102 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
However the rest shakes out, Jones at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Joe Alt at pick No. 3 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 2, Pick 2 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Christian Mahogany in the 68th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Wilson at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Luke McCaffrey at pick 136, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Josiah Ezirim in the 182nd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Elijah Jones in the 229th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
