The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
The cost of the Mahogany reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value.
In pick 11 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Christian Mahogany in slot 68, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Roman Wilson at pick No. 72 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Johnny Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Luke McCaffrey at the 136th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Isaiah Davis was still sitting there in No. 182, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Elijah Jones at the 229th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
