There is reaching, and then there is Chris Tyree at the 195th pick. The Patriots jumped the board by 59 and dared it to prove them wrong. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. That Evans pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Bottom line, with Will Campbell leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Will Campbell at pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Colston Loveland was the payoff at the 35th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Omarion Hampton at slot 40 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Mitchell Evans in No. 67 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaeden Roberts in the 99th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Alfred Collins at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Chris Tyree well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
