Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Colston Loveland got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the 98th overall pick. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The veteran additions, Joe Alt chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, with Travis Hunter leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
Travis Hunter at pick 34 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in Round 3, Pick 2, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Colston Loveland in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Oscar Delp in slot 146 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
