Nobody else had Terrance Ferguson anywhere near slot 130. The Patriots did, by 94 spots, and that gap is the whole story. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Revel Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a three-down runner at fair value. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in pick 34, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Elic Ayomanor. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Tyler Warren at pick No. 66, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a cornerback like Shavon Revel Jr. reach the 90th overall pick and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Sonny Styles at Round 3, Pick 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Aireontae Ersery in the 119th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nick Emmanwori at pick 127 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Terrance Ferguson at No. 130 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kaden Prather well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
