There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Patriots started one anyway for Aireontae Ersery, 52 picks ahead of schedule.
The Judkins pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in slot 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tre Harris in pick 39 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Quinshon Judkins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Aireontae Ersery this early at the 71st pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Tyler Warren at the 98th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nick Emmanwori in Round 5, Pick 2 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Terrance Ferguson in the 194th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
