Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent slot 228 on Marcus Mbow, a name the board had a full 142 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They banked enough surplus on Savaiinaea to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They reached a country mile for Colston Loveland at slot 41, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 72nd overall pick, where Jonah Savaiinaea graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Warren in Round 3, Pick 21 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Aireontae Ersery at No. 108 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Shemar Turner well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Terrance Ferguson at the 216th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Armand Membou slid further than he should have, and pick 218 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Marcus Mbow in No. 228 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
