When the story of this class is written, it opens with Dontay Corleone at the 218th overall pick, a reach of 102 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
In the 24th pick they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
They reached into another round for Colston Loveland, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Kenneth Grant at Round 3, Pick 3, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Tyler Warren at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Aireontae Ersery at the 85th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Tahj Brooks in No. 108, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They jumped the gun on Jaeden Roberts, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Terrance Ferguson in slot 144 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Omari Thomas at Round 7, Pick 2 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dontay Corleone this early at pick No. 218. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jayden Higgins at the 228th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Kaden Prather at pick 253 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
