There is reaching, and then there is Chris Tyree at slot 195. The Patriots jumped the board by 59 and dared it to prove them wrong. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. However the rest shakes out, Carter at that price is a win they earned. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Emery Jones at slot 35, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Abdul Carter all the way to Round 2, Pick 13, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A big swing on Oscar Delp at No. 67, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Hunter Wohler in the 99th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Andrew Mukuba a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Chris Tyree in pick 195, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
