Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent the 195th pick on Chris Tyree, a name the board had a full 59 spots lower. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Booker went about where he belonged in the 35th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Oscar Delp at pick 67, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Earnest Greene III in the 99th overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Andrew Mukuba at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Chris Tyree in No. 195, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
