The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Chris Tyree, taking him 52 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Emery Jones at pick No. 35 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Earnest Greene III in No. 67 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Andrew Mukuba. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Tahj Brooks in the 131st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Chris Tyree at Round 7, Pick 3 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
