Nobody else had Chris Tyree anywhere near pick No. 195. The Patriots did, by 60 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
However the rest shakes out, Savaiinaea at that price is a win they earned.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
Colston Loveland at Round 1, Pick 31 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in the 35th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Kenneth Grant at slot 53 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jonah Savaiinaea at pick 62 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Oscar Delp in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Earnest Greene III went about where he belonged in pick No. 95. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Andrew Mukuba at pick 99, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tahj Brooks in the 131st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Jalen Travis at No. 191, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Chris Tyree at the 195th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
