You can hear the double-takes from here. The Patriots took Chris Tyree at pick 195, roughly 60 spots before his name belonged.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They banked enough surplus on Nwankpa to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Jakobi Meyers deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
James Pearce Jr. slid further than he should have, and pick 13 is lovely value for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
In pick No. 30 they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Emery Jones at par in No. 35, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in slot 45, where Tyler Booker graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Oscar Delp, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Xavier Nwankpa higher than the 67th pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Earnest Greene III in the 94th pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaeden Roberts in slot 99. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 131 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Chris Tyree in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
