You can hear the double-takes from here. The Patriots took Andrew Mukuba at slot 109, roughly 44 spots before his name belonged. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Somehow Will Johnson was still sitting there in pick No. 34, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kenneth Grant in the 45th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A edge rusher of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 2 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Oscar Delp at No. 98. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Andrew Mukuba in slot 109, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Aireontae Ersery at slot 130 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
DJ Campbell at pick No. 194 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
