The Jaheim Oatis pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 35 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Pearce Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. Adding Jedrick Wills Jr. by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th pick they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Nic Scourton, who had no business lasting to pick No. 34. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Emery Jones went about where he belonged in slot 35. It fills a real need, too.
Tyler Booker at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Earnest Greene III this early at pick 66. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaeden Roberts at Round 4, Pick 2. A need, and now a little less of one.
Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 130 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaheim Oatis at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
