New England Patriots

The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Sawyer: B+.

You could see the war room lean forward. Jack Sawyer at slot 66 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The cost of the Delp reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 10
Deone Walker at pick 13 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R1.26 · Pick 26 · Emery Jones · OT · rank 33
In the 26th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 37
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a three-down runner, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 35
They took Tyler Booker at par in No. 34, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Jonah Savaiinaea · OT · rank 39
Jonah Savaiinaea at slot 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 30
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 58th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Jack Sawyer · DE-EDGE · rank 34
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Jack Sawyer in pick No. 66, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 84
Oscar Delp at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
R4.2 · Pick 98 · Earnest Greene III · OG · rank 98
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Earnest Greene III. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.2 · Pick 130 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 127
Aireontae Ersery in the 130th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.2 · Pick 194 · Tahj Brooks · RB · rank 175
Tahj Brooks at slot 194 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
