The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Tre Harris slide 150 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They will need Ersery to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 27th pick they get a two-high chess piece, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Travis Hunter at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Steal is underselling it; Quinshon Judkins at Round 2, Pick 13 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Colston Loveland at slot 46 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Ashton Gillotte in the 66th overall pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tight end of that caliber at No. 77 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Aireontae Ersery well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Earnest Greene III. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 2, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
