The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Shedeur Sanders slide 61 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will need Ersery to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 34 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Shedeur Sanders at Round 3, Pick 2 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Aireontae Ersery in the 98th overall pick says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Andrew Mukuba, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
