When a board-topper like Danny Stutsman slides to pick No. 130, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
If Oatis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 26th pick they get an enforcer at safety at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Emery Jones at par in slot 34, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tyler Booker in pick 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Elic Ayomanor in Round 2, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Oscar Delp at pick No. 66 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Earnest Greene III. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Aireontae Ersery at No. 98, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Danny Stutsman in the 130th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaheim Oatis well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
