The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kaleb Johnson fell into the 81st pick.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
If Delp pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Colston Loveland at slot 69 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Kaleb Johnson reach pick 81 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kevin Winston Jr. at the 105th overall pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in the 106th pick: Elic Ayomanor for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
