The Patriots spent real capital to be 58 picks early on Andrew Mukuba, and the board is going to hold them to it.
The Delp pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emery Jones. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Jonah Savaiinaea in slot 34, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Abdul Carter, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at Round 3, Pick 2 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Andrew Mukuba in the 98th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a tight end like Oscar Delp reach slot 130 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
