The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 45 spots for CJ Daniels, and value like that does not grow back. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wohler. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Omarion Hampton in slot 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quincy Riley at pick No. 63 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No drama and no debate, Andrew Mukuba went about where he belonged in pick 66. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Elic Ayomanor in the 80th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Oscar Delp at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Nick Emmanwori, who had no business lasting to the 127th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
CJ Daniels in the 130th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a safety like Hunter Wohler reach slot 194 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
