There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Patriots started one anyway for CJ Daniels, 44 picks ahead of schedule. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
They banked enough surplus on Emmanwori to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Xavier Nwankpa in pick 34, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quincy Riley in the 51st pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Sonny Styles at Round 3, Pick 2 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Oscar Delp. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Bryson Nesbit at the 115th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in No. 130: Nick Emmanwori for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; CJ Daniels in the 131st overall pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Miles Frazier in No. 198 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
