You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Raheim Sanders in the Round 4 slot.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Lovett.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Will Campbell in pick No. 3 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emery Jones. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Earnest Greene III in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Raheim Sanders at No. 99, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tahj Brooks this early at Round 5, Pick 3. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dominic Lovett in slot 195. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
