If confidence were a draft strategy, the Patriots would have aced it. Lorenzo Styles Jr. at the 206th overall pick is 197 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. On value alone, Styles makes the weekend a net positive.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Quincy Riley in pick 56 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nice patience on Mitchell Evans, who had no business lasting to No. 63. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Oscar Delp in pick No. 78, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sonny Styles at the 103rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
J. Michael Sturdivant at the 130th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
CJ Daniels at Round 5, Pick 7 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jack Kiser at Round 7, Pick 2 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Lorenzo Styles Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
