Call it larceny. Ashton Gillotte sat on the board until slot 130, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In the end it comes back to Malaki Starks, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 16
In the 30th pick they get an enforcer at safety, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 31
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Kenneth Grant reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.1 · Pick 97 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 22
They barely believed it either: Quinshon Judkins still on the board at Round 4, Pick 1. The roster fit checks out.
R4.2 · Pick 98 · Sonny Styles · S · rank 83
A slide stopped in pick No. 98, with Sonny Styles worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.2 · Pick 130 · Ashton Gillotte · DE-EDGE · rank 36
Taking Ashton Gillotte in pick 130 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
