The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 209 spots for Lorenzo Styles Jr., and value like that does not grow back. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Gillotte. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The veteran additions, Joe Alt chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenneth Grant at slot 46 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Colston Loveland in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Oscar Delp at No. 98 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Ashton Gillotte in Round 4, Pick 3, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Sonny Styles at pick 100. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Lorenzo Styles Jr. at pick No. 194, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
