When a board-topper like Ashton Gillotte slides to the 123rd pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Taking Malaki Starks in pick No. 36 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Colston Loveland in Round 2, Pick 24, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Quinshon Judkins at No. 71 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sonny Styles at pick 98 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Oscar Delp, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Ashton Gillotte at the 123rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
