The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Quinshon Judkins fell into the 98th overall pick. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
Kenneth Grant in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Colston Loveland in Round 2, Pick 31, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sonny Styles at pick 88 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Quinshon Judkins was still sitting there in slot 98, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Oscar Delp at pick No. 130 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
