The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Mitchell Evans fell into the 142nd overall pick. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Malaki Starks and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a centerfielder for the defense, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Travis Hunter at the 49th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Steal is underselling it; Colston Loveland at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kenneth Grant in pick 84 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Booker at Round 4, Pick 2 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Oscar Delp at No. 130 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Mitchell Evans in the 142nd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
