Nobody had Earnest Greene III this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 63 spots to get him at pick 35. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. However the rest shakes out, Ayomanor at that price is a win they earned.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
If Travis Hunter and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Earnest Greene III in the 35th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elic Ayomanor in pick 67. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Andrew Mukuba, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tahj Brooks at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They talked themselves into Chris Tyree at No. 195, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
