Thirty-one other rooms let Ashton Gillotte slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick 130. Highway robbery. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, with Malaki Starks leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in No. 33, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Colston Loveland in the 45th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kenneth Grant at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quinshon Judkins in Round 3, Pick 24 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in the 98th overall pick, where Sonny Styles graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Oscar Delp still on the board at pick 116. A need, and now a little less of one.
Aireontae Ersery is a better player than slot 123 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Ashton Gillotte at pick No. 130 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Walter Nolen was still sitting there in No. 131, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
