The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Garrett Nussmeier, the No. 62 name on the board, in slot 194.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a rangy last line of defense, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taking Travis Hunter in slot 53 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Circle this one: Colston Loveland at the 85th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quinshon Judkins in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in pick No. 98, with Sonny Styles worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tight end of that caliber at pick 127 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Aireontae Ersery is a better player than the 130th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Garrett Nussmeier still on the board at No. 194. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
