The Patriots torched the value chart for Lorenzo Styles Jr., taking him 216 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The Nolen value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Travis Hunter at No. 34 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 91 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Quinshon Judkins still on the board at Round 4, Pick 2. A need, and now a little less of one.
Sonny Styles in the 123rd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Oscar Delp in the 125th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Walter Nolen at the 130th pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Lorenzo Styles Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
