The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Raheim Sanders at slot 99 regardless, 36 picks early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Egbuka pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Emery Jones at par in pick No. 35, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Emeka Egbuka at slot 36 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Earnest Greene III at the 67th pick, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Raheim Sanders at No. 99 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Andrew Mukuba in the 131st overall pick, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Chris Tyree, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
